Launch information

The LMS provides the information needed to launch the assignment and identify the student's or instructor's role. WhatYouWrote keeps assignment settings, questions, responses, and scores for instructor review.

Original uploads

PDF, DOCX, and TXT uploads are stored privately for 30 days. Files must pass the malware scanning gate before extraction or download. Instructor access is checked against the assignment and course context.

Essay text and quiz generation

Extracted essay text is used for processing and question generation. It is not stored in the application database. Amazon Bedrock is the application's AI service.

Phrase-bank-first mode supplies questions from a phrase bank first. AI fills missing synonym questions when needed and creates incorrect choices for custom questions.

Quiz records

Completed quiz records have a one-year retention period. This does not mean every backup or operational log is deleted at that exact instant.
